Apple iPod Results

Apple posted their quarterly results yesterday and while selling iMacs, PowerBooks and OSX might be interesting to some websites, here it must be all about the iPod.

The iPod goodies

  • Apple shipped over 5,311,000 iPod digital music players in the quarter, which was over $1B in revenue. This is a 558% increase in unit shipments year over year, and a 284% surge in revenue.

  • Apple's other music related products, made up of iTMS, iPod services, and accessories, accounted for $216M in revenue, up 260% year over year.

  • Apple's music and related sales accounted for 38% of its quarterly revenue, up over 280% from the year-ago quarter.

  • The Apple music store (iTMS) once again broke even.

  • Apple's "Made for iPod" logo program came about because of the over 500 iPod accessories on the market and growing. No comment on royalties.
