First Few Hours with Apple's iPad
A quick review of the iPad in our first three hours with it.
Of course UPS was late today so our iPad Saturday didn't kick off until roughly 2pm but with that said, we pushed through and tried out the new tablet in all its glory.
Set Up
Be prepared for a lot of synching as you move all your content onto the iPad. It has been awhile since we brought 10GB of data over and it sure took awhile. Once done the iPad was ready for testing. We booted up a few apps to see what we could get going.
Photos: It really is nice to touch your photos, flip through them and the mapping feature feels more useful
Netflix: The streaming working pretty well. The interface is slow, looks like a safari pass through but once the movie started over wifi, we were happy.
iBooks: Reading is a pleasure although the iPad isn't very light and feels like $500 in your hands.
App Store: Seems Apple has hidden away the free stuff under a lot of pay stuff. Hopefully that will change. Not sure it needed an entirely new navigation metaphor.
Videos: Very solid, love the chapters integration.
We have a lot to get from Mail to calendar and hope to have that up in a bigger, fuller review soon.
Our quick snap judgement is it is a big iPod Touch with better apps that take advantage of the big screen. Worth the money? Yes. Game changing or a laptop replacement? Not yet.
